Friday, August 17th - Mammoth Cave

We drove from the campground to the Cave, about five miles and signed up for the 12:30 "New Entrance" cave tour. We had a couple of hours to spare so we drove into Glasgow, Kentucky to the Wal-Mart.

The cave tour was cool - literally! 54 degrees cool. That was refreshing. The tour lasted about two hours, including the shuttle bus time. There were 120 participants. Ranger Bobby was our leader and ranger Lance was our tail gunner. To start off, we descended 280 steps into the cave. Many places were quite tight and low clearance. The cave was interesting but not beautiful. Luray Caverns in Virginia is beautiful. Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico and Bennett Springs Caverns in Arkansas are beautiful. Mammoth Cave is, well...BIG!
